TITLE: Old Vines

Their performance and thus their yield diminish in old age, as is the case with us humans. But, they are deeply rooted in the soil and can face the adversities of life more calmly. Winegrowers know about the character and quality of the grapes from old vines.

I learned my photographic craft from the photographer and filmmaker Valentin Schwab. During a specialized internship with him in 1986/87, I gained profound insights into the technique and aesthetics of documentary photography and had the opportunity to develop my own visual language.
After a specialized internship in film and studio production at Bayerischer Rundfunk in 1988, I worked for several years as a camera assistant, both in analogue and electronic film recording in the areas of current media reporting, feature and television drama.

I have abstracted my visual language more and more over the last 35 years, but my documentary photography roots continue to shape my way of working today. In particular, I am interested in exploring the theme of "what is reality, and how can it be photographed". My work is about visualising the complexity of reality. My aim is to explore the representation of the subliminal, the ineffable and the ephemeral.
