TITLE: Your Brother
Mattia and I are sons of the same father, who died before he could raise us as brothers.
We have different mothers, different families, 15 years between us and, despite us living in cities that are a few kilometers away, we grew up apart.
My parents have always been separated. My father used to be a taboo subject and I never had a stable relationship with him.
Twelve years after our father's death, Mattia asked me to meet.
Unprepared and intimidated, I tried to use photography as a refuge and defense against the emotional avalanche that I knew would have hit me.
I believe that our reunion might be the opportunity to create a future where a past is missing and, in some way, to stop history from repeating itself.
At the same time, I saw the possibility of reliving and re-facing echoes of my father's death to, hopefully, make peace with his absence.
This project is meant to be a diary that tries to collect my sensation: from the decision to meet Mattia, through to the real understanding of what I was doing and living, to the realization of being a brother.
This project is a leap of faith into the void to discover Mattia and myself; two brothers.
