TITLE: Bonobo, a cousin unlike the others.
Although bonobos are as close to us as their famous cousins the chimpanzees, their social organisation is unique.
In a matriarchal, peaceful and egalitarian society, they show great empathy towards others. Unfortunately, they are an endangered species.
I had the opportunity to observe and photograph them at the "Lola Ya Bonobo" Sanctuary, in the Democratic Republic of Congo. One cannot remain indifferent in front of their faces and their attitudes. This series of photos is also a vibrant tribute to the great work of the sanctuary team who saves the bonobos and helps them regain a life in freedom in the forest.
