TITLE: The Eye of Osiris
Kamchatka is a volcanic peninsula in Far Eastern Russia, surrounded by the Pacific Ocean. The landscape – or rather moonscape – embracing The Mutnovsky Volcano is truly astounding. It was July, but the arduous hike in the snow turned out to be very rewarding. I was photographing the amazing pallet of earthly shades combined with the whiteness of the snow, when I reached a small crater with very gentle, delicate edges. From its depth, clouds of thick, grey smoke were coming out. Very mystical.
In the craters of many volcanoes in Kamchatka, you can find gorgeous, crystal lakes with glistening emerald surfaces. Walking on the edge of the Gorely Volcano, you can admire a beautiful lake shaped like the Eye of Osiris – an Egyptian god of fertility. Spellbound I stood photographing the natural wonder, but as the sunset approached, it was time to say goodbye to the black-and-white, volcanic mosaic that captured my senses.
Kamchatka – because where the horizon ends, adventure begins…
AUTHOR: Kinga Litynska (Poland)
My name is Kinga Litynska. I am a traveller, author and self-taught photographer. As a dreamer and a realist – with my backpack on my back and my camera in my hands – I choose my own paths. They might be narrow and slippery, and yet, they are mine, proving that what once was merely a dream can really happen...
It has been ten years now that I have been living, working and traveling around Asia, taking photos – exploring its boulevards and backstreets, oceans and deserts. Soaking up the unknown splendor of sights, smells and sounds that this all-encompassing continent has to offer.
From Poland to Kamchatka in The Far East I got hitch-hiking because where the horizon ends, adventure begins, opening the door to the natural world and encounters with native people whose ordinary lives – happiness and sorrows – I passionately capture through the lens of my camera.
