TITLE: Eternal Light in the Darkness

This is a personal project to fight against powerlessness and meaninglessness.
Triggered by a panic attack in a dark, when I saw the floating light passing, I started to reconsider what really matters to me in my life. Through tracing back to significant events in my life, such as the departure of the loved one, sudden unforeseen event of family, and social movement, I gradually learn the meaning of existence of others and I find that the connections between others and me shape my life.
Light guides me to move on and provides me with energy. In the light, I transfer my fear of death into awe of life. The light in my works belongs to individuals and it’s private—every individual can find their own light.

AUTHOR: Gerry Li CHINA

Gerry Li (a.k.a. Li, jiarui) – a positive pessimist, photographer, filmmaker, and musician – graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University. He participated in Hong Kong International Photo Festival Incubation programme from 2019 to 2020. Under the guidance of his mentor Mr. Wing Shya, Li held his first solo exhibition Eternal Light in the Darkness at PMQ in 2020. After that, Li was invited to the group shows including The Stillness Within (2020) by 10 Chancery Lane Gallery in Hong Kong and New Talents(2020) by PEP in Berlin. Before that, Li has produced the photographic series Tracing (2018) and Exploration (2018), directed a romance sci-fi short film Ideal Lover (2019), composed O.S.T. for several short films. < BACK TO GALLERY
