TITLE: Sand Ripples
"Sand Ripples" is a series of photographs taken on the point of Ocracoke Island, NC. Sand and wave ripples form naturally, but often have very geometric, repeating patterns in them. This series explores the patterns and shadows that were temporarily uncovered during low tide.
AUTHOR: Melissa Fehnel (United States)
I was born in 1995 and raised in North Carolina in the United States- thankfully this means access to a wide variety of scenes and landscapes to play in. I've been taking photos just about my whole life, but have taken my photography seriously over the past six years or once I was able to afford my own equipment instead of relying on rentals.
My photographic interests are quite diverse, however black & white photography is my favorite realm for playing with textures and lighting. I have a deep interest in the age-old argument of "is photography an art?" and in the history of photography as an artform. I am heavily inspired by photographers of The Friends of Photography and the New Objectivity movement who fought for the arguably incomplete acceptance of photography as a fine art.
Outside of photography, I am an avid powerlifter specializing in the squat, benchpress, and deadlift and enjoy painting in my free time.
