TITLE: Going round the bend!
In the Ardeche region of central France, there is a preserved steam-operated narrow gauge railway that climbs up into the mountains from the Rhone valley. Here one of its powerful "Mallett" type locomotives, built in the 1930s, runs round its train for the return journey down the hillside. The weather was very overcast, but this, combined with the shiny black of the engine, and the white cloud of steam, makes for a perfect shot in mono! The driver leaning out of the cab together with the sharp curve of the track lends a dynamic to this "travel" shot.
