TITLE: Fearless Child
This unexpected Corona-virus-time offers me the space to crap the camera, explore it and wander around my city (Amsterdam) that is so known and at the same time so new to me in this bizar situation. Most people stay at home in quarantaine, it is a bit of a ghosttown.
Usually at Damsquare where my pictue is taken you 'll walk over the heads of tourists'... today it was as good as empty, accept for this Fearless Child and the Lonely Death - outside of the picture there was this woman making this big bubbles of soap. In the picture they are a beautiful metaphore for the virus floating around in our lives.
Creating distance between people and fear... but the children can be fearless, as they can not be harmed by it.
That I was able to take this picture - telling this story - at this time - gave me a very special feeling. This is the way I like to tell story's with an image. I am inspired to continue documenting this unique time.
The picture is not perfectly sharp, as I still have to learn to (dare) to approach my subject a bit more, so I've cropped it from a bigger few. But the image continues to fascinate me - I think it's the best picture I've created so far and storywise it's complete; the movements, the dynamics between the boy and the Death, the bubbles, the background and also the worried grown up in the back and the careless pigeons in front. The contrast, the light, the white cross. I love it. I hope you do too!
AUTHOR: Yvette Vrijmoed (Netherlands)
It feels inappropriate to call myself a photographer and I am definitly an amateur. But I do LOVE to take pictures and look at them in books and at exhibitions. Last year I bought my first 'real' camera (Olympus EM52)
I've took a course in basics and four Saturdays at FOAM (Dutch Photography museum) in Portretphotography (and realized how much there is to learn, but that I have a good eye) my wish is to do a course in Streetphotography.
I want to photograph people and create storytelling images. Images with soul. My favorite Dutch Photographer is Robin de Puy. I have a thing for black&white photography and found out I like to play with contrast (in the content of the picture as also in the edit .. I only use a basic edit program that is on my laptop so far, hope to learn to work with Light Room or Photoshop in the future).
If I would name my work I call it Intomeyousee-photography. I've used this name for Instagram so far ... with today only 19 pictures on my account, shows what a big of a beginner I still am ;)
But hey! every day can be the beginning of something great!
