The last economically used structures of a moving landscape stretch between the river Emscher and the Rhine-Herne Canal.
The photo shows the coal and coke storage of the German hard coal. In a short period of time, the appearance of an almost deserted lunar landscape changed almost daily. Machines pile up new heaps, they have been removed elsewhere. Between the filling and dumping, nature regained its terrain. Wind and rain leave their mark, as do excavators and caterpillars.
