TITLE: Strange Cargo
AUTHOR: Rick Ruggles (United States)
I dipped a toe into the world of art in during college, then spent many years in construction and music performance. I was also a metalsmith for a good while, designing & creating jewelry and functional objects. In part, I attribute my bent for shape, shadow, and detail to my schooling in geology, which trained me to notice patterns in the world around me.
Miksang is a Tibetan term that I recently came upon, which describes in part why my eye is drawn to such details. It’s seeing the world in a different way- noticing the simplest small details in the world, when fully engaged in the present moment. Along with the ideals of Minimalism, for me it’s also about discovering simple beauty in the most humble of forms, materials, and shadows.
