TITLE: Carnival in the Pays Noir
Carnival in the Pays Noir, neither celebration nor despair. An intertwined mix of two opposites. This is the Borinage, Vincent's birthplace. Trying to shake the unshakable. He painted this land, its hard working people with his paint and charcoals. Scratching, searching with pigments without yellow. A landscape of a monotone life, a city that struggles, a people with an undying hope.
AUTHOR: Kevin Scarlett (Belgium)
English graphic designer/photographer based in Brussels, Belgium. Photography for me is pure creation. Earlier, I used paint to express myself, but over the years I found myself happier in the photographic medium. Still hugely influenced by the great Impressionists, Graphic Arts and Surrealism. You will find their mark in many of my subjects and compositions. I endeavour to go beyond More than seeing. I try to capture essence, unique moments, emotions, enigmatic light and shadow played within a simple frame.
I’m happiest when totally free to express myself through my lens, the heart and eyes leading the way far from a rational mind. I simultaneously work on many projects both personal and commissioned. From reportage and documentary projects to street, portraits, events and more.
