TITLE: Contemplation in the Great Court of the British Museum, London.
The British Museum is a place that emanates wonder and amazement. Crammed with beauty and astonishment from centuries of human habitation, visitors can become overwhelmed to the point of cerebral overload. Many head to the Queen Elizabeth Great Court, the largest covered public square in Europe, to absorb, internalise and contemplate their experience. Others come for the tranquillity, for mindfulness, wellbeing or to just breath in the experience.
All these images were taken in the Great Court, capturing individual reactions and responses to their environment. These magical fleeting moments have been captured in the tones and shadows as the lines flow with the subject. The lighting is mainly natural from the tessellated glass roof, casting beautiful geometric patterns around it’s visitors. These are individuals sharing experiences that bring people together without them necessarily being aware of it. The images, for the most part, are candid, captured without the subject being aware they are being photographed. This provides for a totally natural expression without any self-conscious or pre-meditated poses. Most appear lost and absorbed in a world of awe; soaked in the relaxation and wonder that emanates from every exhibition space in the Museum.
