TITLE: On Stage
My practice relies mainly on movement, on the fly or choreographed, during shows or experiences, on its forms in photo and video and the three different blurs it prints on a sensor.
I contacted some choreographers to offer them my perspective on their gestures and vocabulary. Here are some dance images, captured during rehearsals or performances that allow me to think and work, with dancers in "place of the shooting device (operator, camera, performer) in a performance".
I say "in" as I would say "from the inside", in opposition to "frontal posture of the public or the photographer when he or she documents".
How can this viewpoint be integrated into the choreography?
Should this viewpoint exist for the viewer or must it be disembodied?
How can energy and movement be felt or experienced in a single shot?
AUTHOR: Jean-Christophe Yacono (Canada)
yako (Jean-Christophe Yacono) has developed a photographic and digital practice through various artistic projects. His works have been presented, among others, at the Digital Art Biennial (BIAN), at the International Festival of Films on Art (FIFA), at the Festival du Nouveau Cinéma (FNC), at the Cirque du Soleil, at the ArTV studio. of the PdA, at the Center Pompidou and at the Centrale Powerhouse gallery.
Since 1993, he has been interested in new forms of digital writing for screens and public spaces. It is through photography, interactive “new realities” and “freeze-frame” that he begins to reflect on the gesture, on the fly or choreographed, during movements, experiences or shows, on its forms on the image, on the sequences, on the movements and blurs that movement prints on a sensor.
yako is developing a practice in Media Arts through projects such as WONDERLAND (2008), a public performance of dance, immersive theater and live audiovisual creation, the interactive installation MUSICBOX 2 (2009) presented during the BIAN or the production of interactive video devices, short and medium formats such as FEAR IN MOTION (2019) presented at the Imperial during FIFA 38 and selected in several festivals.
