TITLE: Dry and Barren
Landscape series (Climate Change):
MV-Dry_1 - 8: Dry and Barren: Various hills on the Fleurieu Peninsula, South of Adelaide, Australia
2020 is different. Covid-19 has caused the ordinary daily life as we know it to come to a grinding halt – to me it seems that suddenly everything is in slow motion, watching from inside the home what is happening or in many cases rather what is not happening outside. Going out for a jog on near empty streets. Quiet everywhere.
However, the beginning of the year – before it the pandemic spread of the virus across the globe – it was made clear to us that one thing does not really slow down: the extreme and catastrophic bush fires in Australia showed us once again that climate is changing at a fast rate. I happened to be in South Australia when the first bushfires started. Rolling hills, in spring normally in a lush green, where already totally dried out. Beige, yellow, barely anything green visible.
The pictures here are a selection of the pictures I made of the scorched, dried, and barren hills on the Fleurieu Peninsula South of Adelaide. Rendering them in black and white, in my opinion, brings out the scorched structure even more.
