TITLE: untitled
1-2 tree
In 1852 this region, Noir Flohay in the High Fens (Eastern Belgium), was planted with pines. However, those trees were not really suitable for this region. In the winter, the snow accumulates in the crowns. Branches break and the trees grow in all kinds of whimsical forms. These pines would never produce wood. But the whimsically shaped trunks created a very striking, somewhat spooky landscape. In 1968 and again in 2011, a fierce fire raged here, leaving only part of the spectacular trees. In the winter, the black burnt trunks of the pines stand out sharply against the white snow . Besides the groups of burnt pines, you will also find single birch trees trying to survive age, weather, fire and human interferences.
These 6 photos were taken under misty and snowy conditions to simplify the landscape and focus on the trees. Even the damage trees with broken branches, express great appeal to the eyes. Standing tall in the snow and the mist or even laying down, they look like pen drawings, with a graphic simplicity and beauty.
If you look at the sphotos from number 1 to 6 you see a constant degradation up to a completely broken tree resting in the snow.
AUTHOR: Guy Lambrechts (Belgium)
I am Guy Lambrechts, a Belgian landscape, architecture, travel and nature photographer. Combining my desire to travel and love for photography, I’m inspired by the quiet beauty of landscapes. I feel happy during camping out or hiking with my camera at hand. Then I feel one with the great outdoors. Steadily, I simplified and transformed my work more into fine art photography, both in colour and in black and white. Through my photographs I like to convey serenity, elegance, mood, calmness and beauty. Rolling landscapes, desolate beaches, splashing streams, waterfalls, impressive trees and nature are therefore my favourite subjects.
But, I also feel at home in cities, spotting lines, shapes and light, both in modern and historical architecture. I love observing people and to capture those decisive moments and scenes in the streets of cities all over the world.
