TITLE: Pandemic Anxiety
In this conceptual series I wanted to represent the mental struggles I am going through during this quarantine process. I myself have several signs of OCD, and they are represented through the pictures.
- Self-portrait with smoke: This represents my constant fear of contamination, which is now shared by most of the population due to the coronavirus.
- Knives photos: These are representative of my phobia of committing impulsive acts. The long exposure photo is representative of my ordering obsession. I really had a hard time getting everything in place for some of these photos because it had to be just perfect.
- Plate photos: The food represents not only my ordering obsession (symmetry, parallelism), but also the fear of not having enough food during the quarantine (since some days supermarkets were emptied out). In the other hand, the plate full of pills represent the need to use medication to control my obsessions and anxiety, but also having to take some extra medication due to this extraordinary situation.
- Hands photos: The photo with meat and coins represent the fear of contamination through food and everyday items, especially money, since right now most governments recommend to pay by card to avoid getting infected. The other photo portrays the need of disinfecting.
- Self-portrait with pill: This symbolizes the need for salvation, which may come in the form of a pill (since sometimes it is needed to have a good quality of life). That's why the pill shines light on its own; both because it is a salvation, and also because it's an idealization, since even though medication calms the symptoms, they are usually not a solution on its own.
This is a very personal series that I just needed to do. I hope you can enjoy it.
