TITLE: the silence
On August 25, 2013 I lost Pica, and silence came.
During my childhood I did not know where it came from or where it belonged, nor did I wonder, it only existed.
When you are born and grow up in a place, you think you will stay there forever. My connection with Camaná grew more and more as if the river was my umbilical cord and expelled me at its mouth. My parents, however, decided that the best future for me was in the capital, Lima.
I never felt identified being here, maybe that's why I returned every time I had with my family, and sometimes alone, but always with the assurance that Pica was waiting for me at the terminal.
The music of "Los Errantes de Chuquibamba" was an indispensable element in "El Silencio" when Pica traveled the roads. He was one more wanderer, transporting the production of the place.
Many times I refer to the day when something irreparably changed in me.
When we lose someone, we tend to recreate not only the good moments, but also the objects that perpetuate the presence of the absent and that often represent his personality are important. Pica went looking for the light, but her memory is with me.
People really die when people forget them. He never left.
They always told me that he walked the same way as Pica, and it is now that with those same steps I try to walk this dark and silent path.
Pica is my grandfather.
I was born in Camana, Arequipa, and lived there until I was 7 years old, later I migrated to Lima where I still live today. I returned to Camana, whenever my parents took me on vacation and then I started traveling alone. My grandfather's departure meant becoming aware
