This image was taken early in morning from a cliff overlooking the beach in Santa Barbara.
As the low tide set in, the sandpipers were eager to feed on the freshly exposed crustaceans
on the beach. This long-exposure image visualizes the dance between the scavenging birds
and the tidal waves.
This image was taken with a D800e coupled with a 70-200mm f2.8 VRI tele lens (at 98mm).
Exposure 4sec at f20 with an ND9 filter (at ISO125) .

Professionally, I am a biochemist by training and have spent the last 23 years in academic and
industrial environments. I have become interested in amateur photography since I was about 10 years old
and my first cameras were a Praktica L1 and a Minolta XE-1 - i.e. a long time ago.
I now specialize in outdoor and nature photography as well as underwaterphotography.
The goal of my photography is to not only visualize the beauty of the natural environment but also to
educate about the subjects I photograph.
