This image was taken from a boat at the Lake Cachuma State Park in Santa Barbara County.
A small group a young deer followed our drifting boat to see what we were up to.
One particularly curious animal, we named George, came very close while still trying to hide
in the bushes.
D200 coupled with a 300mm F/2.8 tele lens.
ISO 400, F 4, exposure 1/1000sec.
Processing performed in Lightroom 5.

Professionally, I am a biochemist by training and have spent the last 23 years in academic and
industrial environments. I have become interested in amateur photography since I was about 10 years old
and my first cameras were a Praktica L1 and a Minolta XE-1 - i.e. a long time ago.
I now specialize in outdoor and nature photography as well as underwaterphotography.
The goal of my photography is to not only visualize the beauty of the natural environment but also to
educate about the subjects I photograph.
