TITLE: Tectonic

An exploration of the contrast between the still and the fluid, the harsh texture of geological structures and the glassy smooth of the surface of the sea. The project is ongoing and has slowly developed a style of photography that engages in minimalism and and formal compositions.
The project drew from many influences and was formed through trial and error, slowly removing elements of the photographs that were not necessary, finally culminating in black and white, 2:3 ratio images of the bodies of water with weathered geological structures breaking up the gradient of the sky and sea. The project aims to transport to an unknown, with an absence of context being important, thus no date or locations are given.
The images seek to create a calming sense of tranquillity to be found from my photography, and a sense of quiet that reflects the locations I photograph. There are no people in my work landscapes and very rarely any buildings, which leads to a sense of isolation, but its not a bleak isolation, its more of a break from chaos, and a choice rather than something forced.
