TITLE: Absence(s)
Wake up one morning with the feeling of no longer being!
Absent from any scene of life, disassociated from your own existence. A wall was built between you and the real, between you and the outside world. You have reached the breaking point and switched to a categorical refusal to see and live your daily life, you have taken leave of you.
You live in a thick fog, unable to define yourself emotionally, unable to understand what surrounds you. Everything is indeterminate or grossly defined.
A distant look at these banal everyday things. These scenes, these places seem to you inaccurate, insignificant and sometimes meaningless. Look at yourself, at a profound absence of essential things that could help you understand what is upsetting you, what anguish, and what made you rock.
Lack of communication, time, sleep, pleasure, warmth, outcome, perspective, loss of a loved one, uprooting, absence of light, dreams ...
You are looking for the trigger. A missing face, a figure, someone standing behind a door and who could reach out to you, people who could help you hang on to something tangible.
You feel a presence, a light on everything that seems insignificant and extinct. You realize then that this invisible presence, stunned and frozen in front of these harmless scenes, is none other than you. It is the brutal and uncontrollable return to reality.
All these empty, inanimate scenes, where the absence of a being is felt, take on another dimension. You look at them differently. These moments, these scenes, moreover banal, make sense.
Resigned, without real answers to your questions, you accept at that moment what happens to you, you agree to resume the course of your life.
Is this absence of self over ? Is it an ephemeral event ?
AUTHOR: ANTONIO DOMINGUES (France)
Photographer, I live and work in Paris.
Until the birth of my first child, in 2003, the photographic act represented for me only one way to immortalize good moments. This event caused a sudden awareness of my duty to remember and questions about my identity as a man, son and father.
Photographing has become a way for me to build the story I want to bequeath to my children. What will remain after me?
The photographic act is also a way of expressing my feelings. I constantly wonder about who we are and how we feel deep down inside us; our anxieties, our desires, our history, our lacks are at the origin of my reflection and my production and feed them continuously.
To succeed in expressing who I am and what I live is not only a personal therapy but also a way to share my vision of the relationships we have with each other and more generally to become aware of what we are as 'Human being.
My photography is intimate and personal, it echoes your own questions.
