An ancient first growth forest in the temperate rainforest of the pacific northwest. Its a spiritual experience coming to this forest where a soft mist is in the air and the sunlight gently filters through the trees. I felt like I was an intruder, disrupting the serenity of this forest with my mere presence. I enjoyed the moment, quietly took this photo, and left.

Richard Vandegriend is a self-taught Vancouver based photographer whose passion is landscape and fine-art photography. Believing that composition and timing are critical to a great image, compositional elements are not altered in post-processing. Instead care and patience are exercised to ensure the image was captured perfectly in camera. As landscape photography is so dependent on lighting and weather conditions, more often than not, great images are discovered rather than planned. One must give themselves the time and opportunity to discover these images.
