TITLE: about survival yet perspective
The works by Hiko Uemura evolve from a deep urge
to embed, for longer periods of time, into societies.
These societies are mostly rural, but always on the rougher edges of life.
Where people have found a balance, or are trying to
...life, hope, swept down, fatalism, dreams, future…
AUTHOR: hiko uemura (Japan)
Lens based works combine her deep interest in social environments, nature and its life, history and tales.
The images travel the borders of fine art, the illustrative, the graphical… documentary…
Hiko's approach to her subjects, makes her embed into isolated communities to work, eat, sleep
and experience the harshness, love and determination of life.
Light, nature, people and the edge of time…
Last few years she has been traveling and working in Ireland and Lapland, now in Spain and Cataluña.
Combining artist-in-residencies at the Guesthouse (Cork, 2013), Mustarinda (Finland, 2013) and Addaya Art (Mallorca, ES, 2016),
she dives into local communities, looking and seeing, listening and speaking.
Her interpretation can be very instinctive but during the short process up until the photosession,
she integrates the human moments into often a graphical result.
The instant of the shoot has died but the feel is eternal.
