TITLE: Not So Alone
Not So Alone
Perù, Ancash.
Among the mountains of the Cordillera of the Andes, from 3500 to 4700 meters above sea level, there are people who live in isolation, far more kilometers from the village 'neighbor, who for different reasons have found themselves alone, helpless, sick and forgotten by the world.
They lives alone from a very long time, since the children, or the family have gone to Lima in search of fortune, and instead, in most cases they were swallowed up by the poverty of the great metropolis, and lost all contact with those who remained in the Andean mountains
The only hope for these people are volunteers who bring food and medicines once a week.
These portraits, taken with the exclusive use of the light avaiable in their small huts, is a selection from a work call "Not So Alone" product in three different journey in Peru, following and helping the volunteers to visit house to house these poor people.
These service is very hard, they walk for kilometers on foot, because there are no roads for the cars, and the whole day they can visit a maximum of 6 or 7 houses. Most of these older people speak only the Quechua, the old language of the incas, and this creates additional problems in the dialogue between volunteers.
But the joy of these native people who receives the visit, food and medicine, some words of comfort, someone's company, repays volunteers from all fatigues.
