TITLE: Muted Equator
Recently, the rain in Singapore has increased, and I've always enjoyed walking around in the light rain. However, the sun that emerges after the clouds disperse is still overwhelmingly bright. On clear days, it reminds me of the first time I used pupil-dilating eye drops; the world was so bright that I couldn't keep my eyes open, and the intense sunlight seemed to block out my hearing as well. I can't describe this sensory experience as 'silent,' because Singapore is never quiet. It's more like my body unintentionally filters out the auditory channel while processing information, making 'mute' a more fitting description. In Singapore's visual landscape, coconut trees always seem to be a constant presence, even though I know they're not exclusive to Singapore, and the coconut trees in my mind are mixed with other tropical species like palm and banana trees. The phrase "Emotions bestowed, responses forthcoming" by Liu Xie aptly describes the relationship between this city and its coconut trees. Having been here for four months, I've taken some scattered photos of Singapore and took this opportunity to organize them. Also, coming up with a title was difficult; for now, let's call it "Muted Equator". End of December.
