TITLE: Surfer
I met surfer Dale Cormican last summer of 2022 in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. He's had six surgeries, mostly on his brain because of cancer. He had such a great attitude about his life as a surfer from the 60s'. He is retired now at 75, and still surfs, the only thing that holds him back are these surgeries.
AUTHOR: Darin Back (United States)
Darin Back is an American photographer who travels across the world capturing the essence of the local people's customs and culture, environment and the emotion evoked out of their particular lifestyles. His own lifestyle begins from his childhood in rural Minnesota to the beaches of Florida to the big cities such as Los Angeles and Minneapolis to the islands of the Dominican Republic, Costa Rica, and Puerto Rico.
The passion to capture the truth behind the eyes of the people and places he shoots inately drives him ever further into the pursuit of truth. This creates a natural progression of perfecting his ability to capture the "elusive truth," which lay behind and beneath the surface of the image itself - this truth can only be "felt" through and beyond surface, photographic imagery, most certainly through the black and white images.
Darin has published several books. The most recent, entitled "East Coast Surfers". Currently, he is completing "East Coast Surfers, Edition 2: Women of the Outer Banks" (working title). In addition, Darin is collating 25+ years worth of photos related to musicians and continues to capture images for his other book related to the rich history of Minnesota musicians.
