TITLE: Aberrations
This series is titled Aberrations, meaning both deviation from expectation and an optical abnormality. I wanted to explore the juxtaposition of beauty and imperfection by capturing the moments between effort and execution. Dancers are pressured to be perfect and even their movements are dictated down to an eight count. I include images of chaotic missteps and peak performance to illustrate that passion and dedication should be revered above all else. While a mistake such as a bent knee or imperfect hand placement is regarded as failure, the movements, whether perfectly performed or not, are an act of expression and artistry. The camera, or more specifically the photographer, is imperfect too. The timing may not be perfect in some of the images, opening the shutter too soon or closing to late and overexposing slightly.
