TITLE: untitled
This is a series made on a trip and dedicated to the Ukrainian refugees - children and mothers. In this particular series included images from Warsaw central station and on the way to the border of Ukraine to Poland.
I traveled to Poland and Ukraine to make a reportage, but at the railway station in Warsaw and Lublin railway station after seeing hundreds confused refugees I decided to stay as a volunteer. Those people were need help with translation and first psychological help. My dear Ukrainians, I'm still see your eyes, I never forget your pain.
I tried to stay strong all those days, but when I stayed alone I couldn’t hall my tears. I couldn’t hold my camera in my hands.
The main thing is that I saw this grief of thousands of people, families, frightened eyes of mothers, wives, sisters, daughters. Tired of the road of children, old people who do not believe in what is happening. Frightened cats and dogs, their eyes seemed to be as frightened as their owners. Fathers, brothers and husbands who accompanied their families into the unknown, and tried their best to hold back tears and reassure "everything will be fine."
Passing several border crossing points in Ukraine and Poland, sitting together in the bus with Ukrainian refugees, slept in a shelter for refugees in Jaroslaw station I experienced together with the Ukrainians and shared their grief.
AUTHOR: Elli Asker (Sweden)
Based in Sweden. I have lived and worked in Spain, Russia and the USA and combine travel with a passion for photography. I studied with Dimitri Bogachuk at Kiev's School of Photography, in the Ukraine, and completed a BA in Political Science at Södertörn University, Sweden. I am an advocate for the positive influence which creative practice can have. My own story is one of immigration prompted by traumatic persecution in my home country and photography has been a way to cope with anxiety and the effects of PTSD.
My photographs are influenced by both classical cinema and painting, reflecting the color fields of Impressionist, Post-Impressionist and Expressionist artists along with the sophisticated aesthetics of directors such as Tarkovsky, Bergman, Fellini and Almodovar. In my work I seek to create photographs that can communicate the emotion associated with our shared experiences, building a connection with the viewer.
