TITLE: Snowfall over Basel
Snow has become a rare thing in the city of Basel in the last decade. But in January 2021 we had heavy snowfall over our small but historic city. The otherwise noisy, hectic city with its billboards and construction sites, became quiet and slow. As if time slowed down, the city felt as if we had traveled back in time to a bygone era.
In this unposed series of street photographs, I tried to capture this, in the intimate way I usually prefer, with 50mm lens and no influence on the scenes.
AUTHOR: Bastian Peter (Switzerland)
My name is Bastian Peter and I am a street photographer from Basel, Switzerland.
I shoot in color and black and white respectively.
Growing up in my family`s mask making atelier an early curiosity developed surrounding what lies beneath any facade.
Storytelling in many forms, especially photography and cinema fueled a passion for narrative and point of view. Self taught and with a growing interest and a hopefully evolving eye, my work has been evolving into the use of abstraction and light as a vehicle for emotion and storytelling.
My photos are, if not otherwise stated, always candid.
I am very thankful to participate at the Monovisions Awards in 2021.
