TITLE: "Gabrielle"
This picture of my friend Gabrielle was taken on the spot. It embodies for me both the brightness and the loneliness of youth. Gabrielle wrinkles her eyes because of the sun but her gaze fixed at the distance reveals an inner vision. Her face catches the light while in the background the three people seem to turn their back on us, as if they were included in another temporality.
AUTHOR: LILI ROMANET (France)
I am 18 years old and I live in Paris, France. I am currently a high school student in the last year of applied arts. I practice drawing at school while studying design and architecture, and I love it, but I also have been self-taught in traditional photography since I was 16, and I love it even more. I would like to join a school of documentary photography next year in Brussels, Belgium. I basically work on the portrait, which is a genre that I’m passionate about, and more generally I’m interested in the human figure, in how human presence can impact an image. I admire photographers like Nan Goldin, Martin Parr, Duane Michals, Diane Arbus, Robert Doisneau... In their different styles they all show great humanity and sensitivity. It moves me.
